The modeling for this analysis was run using DIS3D (Erikson, 1987)

Parameters for modeling:

  • constant stressdrop for each fault segment

  • frictionless fault surface

  • modeling mesh size was 2 km x 2 km

  • the Cholame segment was modeled as a 58 km wide by 15 km deep fault plane

  • the Carrizo was modeled as a 122 km wide by 22 km deep fault plane

  • stressdrop ratios (TCholame/TCarrizo) were varied from 1 to 1/4

All available offset data was then plotted on top of these curves in order to compare the modeled results to the pattern produced by the actual offset data from the 1857 earthquake.
