ArcIMS Tutorial Write-up

1.        Get the shape file, which is point data, line data or polygon data.  They are saved as .dbf and .shp files.

-          the dbf files can be opened with a text editor to view

 

  1. Open aimsauthor from terminal window.

A.      Go to the Layer menu and select Add Layer

-          Can look for shape or image files

-          Uses Mr. Sid compression for TIFFs

B.       Navigate to shape file directory

-          The name will show up to the right with the file name

-          The files to be placed on the web should be in NAD27 format projections

C.       Click on/off points on the legend at the left of the screen

D.      Layers (to change symbology)

-          Select unique for some

-          Can select by fields

E.       Click save and the file is saved to an axl file.

F.       Exit aimsauthor

 

  1. Open aimsadmin from the terminal window

A.      Click on the blue looking cog icon for services manager

B.       Click on new service

-          Give the service a name

-          Navigate to the AXL file you saved in step 2

-          Select image server from the drop down menu

    1. Shutdown aimsadmin and save.

 

  1. Open aimsdesigner from the terminal window

·         Select a name for the website

·         Select a title for the website

·         Click on next

·         Select service that was created in aimdadmin

·         Click on next

·         Select just the html viewer not java

·         Click on next

·         Click on next

·         Click extent of all services

·         Click on next

·         Choose service overview map

·         Select tools:  select defaults and make sure they are able to print

·         Click on next

·         Select the website directory:  pick the default

·         Click on next

·         Scripts will now run in the terminal window that aimsdesigner was launched from

·         This completed this section.  Close aimsdesigner.

    http://cordillera.la.asu.edu/website/<website directory>
