September 28, 2004 Parkfield Earthquake
This is a demonstration of the capabilities of the Parkfield Unified
Visualization Project, which will be released to the scientific community
Real Soon Now. Click the link above to view seismicity in the Parkfield
area in VRML format. This requires a VRML-capable browser or a VRML
plugin. A good freeware VRML plugin for Win/Mac is Cortona.
- The scene in the VRML file consists of three data types. The lateral
bounds of this scene are (meters northing/easting, UTM zone 10N, NAD27):
North: 3989160
South: 3959640
West: 716604
East: 742868
- The raster displayed at the top of the scene is a USGS 30 meter DEM.
- The red line is the 1966 fault rupture trace.
- The spheres represent seismicity from the CISN catalog, starting at
21:15:00 UTC on 28 Sept. 2004, and ending around 21:00 UTC on 29 Sept., when
this dataset was queried from the NCEDC website. Size corresponds to
magnitude, and color corresponds to chronological order, from cyan (earliest)
to magenta (most recent).
