The basic idea for the codes below is that you shoo the first point of the group that will have a given attribute, and then type in the code.

So in the field, you should have a signal like this () to indicate the end of a group of points with a common attribute.

Shoot topo (or other feature) by using

  5    000

AFTER THE FIRST SHOT OF THIS GROUP.  We denoted this with this signal: .

and blaze away.  The 000 code is the default, and so will be just basic points  .

For some other types of points, use these:

002 is benchmark

004 is survey mark

005 is survey mark

007 is checkpoint

For a fault (or other feature), let us use this (AFTER THE FIRST SHOT OF THIS GROUP):

  5    n199 where n = 1,2,3,… for each individual polyline (SCCC)

We denoted this with this signal: .

To close the line segment back with the beginning, do this (this is not typically used):

  11

Use these in the same way that fault was used as above, but replace the last three digits of the code sequence (CCC)

101 is relief which is a breakline. We denoted this with this signal: .

102 is relief, top of bank, breakline.

103 is relief, top of bank, breakline.

198 is fault, approximately known, breakline.

199 is fault, known, breakline.

201 is vegetation

301 is drainage, drain, breakline.

302 is drainage, watercourse, breakline.

303 is edge of water, breakline, polygon?

401 is road.

412 is road, track

601 is building, house.

711 is electric

801 is a rail line.

901 is Boundary, boundary line.
