Research:

Look at balloon photography of the brush fire scars east of Carefree, AZ at http://activetectonics.la.asu.edu/Fires_and_Floods/10_24_00_photos/.
There are lots of balloon photos and mosaics on the links on this page: http://activetectonics.la.asu.edu/Fires_and_Floods/index.html.

System:

For the balloon system, we use all the same gear as the kite system, except instead of the kite, we fly with two 300-gram helium-filled weather ballons in a custom built harness system.
Here is from where we buy the balloons: http://www.scientificsales.com/
Here is the source of the other cheaper and bigger military surplus balloons shown in the lower image (thanks to Lee Amoroso for the suggestion): http://www.sportsmansguide.com.
The part No. is WX1-29408, enter it or search for Balloons.
