It has been observed that slip along a fault segment goes to zero at the
end of the segment and is at a maximum in the center. Therefore, a closer way
to model the offsets produced during fault motion is to specify a
constant stressdrop which will allow the displacement to change from
some maximum offset in the middle of the segment to zero at the ends
(Fig. 3).
